Huli District has a coverage area of 73.98 sqkm, 5 subdistricts and a total population of 1.026 million within its jurisdiction. It is the origin of the Xiamen Special Economic Zone and an important transportation hub. Based on its all-district spatial development strategy and planning of '2+4+N' and relying on the development of two major national zones, i.e. Xiamen Area of China (Fujian) Pilot Free Trade Zone and Xiamen Torch Development Zone for High Technology Industries, it preferentially develops four industries including high-end manufacturing, commercial and trade logistics, emerging finance and creative innovation industries. A series of major projects have been implemented.
