Xiang'an District has an administrative area of 412 sqkm and a sea area of 134 sqkm. It is planned as a new core of the metropolitan region of Xiamen, Zhangzhou and Quanzhou and a city center in the east of Xiamen. Xiang'an District is aggressively promoting the construction of many major projects, including Xiang'an International Airport, Demonstration Zone of Cross-strait Cooperation in Modern Service Industry, the East Coast New Town and Tongxiang Hi-tech Industrial Base. It is expected to become a modern ecological seaside new urban area suitable for living and working.
